Undergraduate Degrees and Formal Minors

A major or minor in Sociology provides excellent preparation for careers in a variety of occupations, including public relations, teaching, positions in government, social service agencies, and industry. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in Sociology are required to take 31 hours of coursework.  The 31 hours include five required core courses, five additional sociology electives, and 24 hours of coursework in related areas.  Students minoring in sociology are required to take 18 hours of sociology coursework, including two core courses (Soc 101 and Soc 320) and four additional sociology electives.  Sociology courses can also be taken as part of the Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences degree program.
